Purpose: The Truman Foundation awards scholarships to college students who plan to pursue careers of public service in the government or elsewhere. The Truman scholarship offers $30,000 for graduate or professional school. Truman scholars participate in leadership development programs and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.
Qualifications: Students must be nominated by their educational institution, be a U.S. citizen or national, have an extensive record of public and community service, and be committed to a career in public service. Applicants must also be in the upper quarter of their junior class. For the purposes of the Truman Scholarship, junior status is determined only by graduation date. Graduation dates of December 2013, or April, August, December of 2014 will satisfy the requirement for the 2012 application.
