Previous Winners of the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant



Ramirez, Belinda

Belinda Ramirez is from Glendora, California, and majored in Anthropology with a minor in Spanish. She is Colombian-American and a first generation college graduate. Belinda is a recipient of a Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) Study Abroad Scholarship to Ecuador. Belinda credits her involvement in the BYU Honors program, her impressive undergraduate research in Thailand, and subsequent ORCA grant and honors thesis for helping her prepare and be eligible for the PKP scholarship. Belinda has conducted research on messianic and cargo cult groups under the mentorship of Dr.

Sargent, Cameron

Cameron Sargent is from Littleton, Colorado and is majoring in Molecular Biology with minors in Chemistry and Korean. A winner of the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Scholarship to China, Cameron feels that his undergraduate research, Honors involvement, and LDS mission all helped prepare him for this scholarship. Cameron credits submitting an ORCA proposal and enrolling in Honors 150 Freshman Writing to becoming a better writer. He also notes that Honors 100 helped him learn how to apply and find scholarships.


Woods, Shane

Shane won the 2012 Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant.  He is majoring in Geography with a Global Studies emphasis and is minoring in Visual Arts and Political Science.





Keller, Ryan S.

Ryan is from Salt Lake City, Utah. He began college as a freshman at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and then served a mission in the Guatemala City North Mission. Ryan came to BYU after his mission, and he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Philosophy in 2004. He has served in many service and community groups including a state-wide student organization, which he founded called, Students Against Violence.
