Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Scholarship
Purpose: FLAS scholarships are funded by the US Dept of Education and administered through BYU's Center for the Study of Europe (CSE) and BYU's Asian Studies Consortium (ASC). Scholarships are granted to both undergraduates and graduates to encourage the addition of a less-commonly taught (LCT) language to their curriculum. Preference is given to students who plan on a career in international or government work. Full tuition plus a stipend are available either for the academic year (fall/winter semesters) or for intensive language study during spring/summer. Applications for summer FLAS are due in November; applications for fall/winter FLAS are due in February.
Qualifications: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a minimim 3.0 GPA, and be studying a LCT language (see website for list) at 200 level or higher by the year they receive FLAS.
